Dedicated to all things fired, California Clay presents a survey of California artists working in clay. 


About

In response to the recent ceramics renaissance in the contemporary art world, California Clay features an intriguing mix of functional and aesthetic works that highlight the versatility of the medium, and celebrate ceramics as both functional and fine art, showcasing the talent and creativity of contemporary ceramicists.

California Clay Workshops

In addition to the exhibition California Clay, Bedford Gallery will also offer workshops and programming led by exhibition artists that are open to the public:

  1. Handbuilding: Teabowls with Text featuring Nancy Selvin
    12 - 6 pm, Saturday, January 20
    Acclaimed artist Nancy Selvin will demonstrate how to handbuild teabowls and add text to the surface using a variety of methods. She will also present the lecture Nancy Selvin, Time Tells: A Personal History in which she will dive deep into her expansive career as a ceramic artist.

  2. Cocktails & Conversation
    5:30 - 7 pm, Thursday, February 29
    Experience Bedford Gallery’s latest exhibition, California Clay, up close at the next Cocktails + Conversation as featured artist Ehren Tool will delve deep into his practice with a special presentation.

  3. (Grand)Parent & Me Clay Workshop
    10:30 am - 12 pm, Sunday, March 10
    Create clay ornaments with your (grand)child using clay cutters and paint them with vibrant underglazes in a Bedford Gallery workshop led by California Clay artist Brandon Lipe.
